Fjordbad

RATIO has developed a concept originating from a private initiator in Årdal municipality, located at the innermost part of the Sognefjord. The bathhouse aims to offer the local community in this industrial town, nestled between steep mountains, a new place to gather and connect.

The Fjord Bath will offer visitors to Årdal a new attraction. In this village where the fjord meets the land, it will be possible to take a dip unlike any other. Yet the most important goal is to create new opportunities for the people who live in Årdal, to establish a community bathhouse where locals can meet, and which helps revitalize the quiet town center by the water.

Located in Meieriparken, the facility includes an indoor bathhouse with a swimming pool, children's pool, changing rooms, and a café. Floating in the fjord is a bathing pier with two heated pools, a diving tower, a mobile sauna, and sun terraces. A beach is proposed along the shoreline, and an outdoor stage for concerts and other events is placed in the park.

The entire facility can be heated using surplus energy from the local industry.
