The Fjord Bath

RATIO has developed an idea from a private initiator in Årdal Municipality deep in Sognefjorden. The fjord bath is about the dream of swimming in the fjord – every day, all summer, regardless of the weather. The public bath will be able to provide the local community of the industrial village between the steep mountains a new meeting point.

Location

Årdalstangen, Årdal Municipality

Status

Ongoing

Period

2016

Area

Indoors 400 m2, outdoors 1,400 m2

Function

Bathing facilities with concert arena and cafe

The fjord bath will give visitors to the community a new attraction. In the village where the fjord goes ashore, it will be possible to take an unusual bath. The most important thing, however, is to enable the residents of Årdal to see new opportunities in their own local community, a village bath where people can meet, and which helps activate an empty centre at the fjord.

An indoor bathhouse with a pool, children's pool, locker rooms and cafe is placed in the Meieriparken park. A floating bathing jetty is located in the fjord with a heated pool, diving tower, mobile sauna and sun decks. It has been proposed to build a beach on the shore. An outdoor stage for concerts and other events is located in the park.

The facility can be heated by surplus heat from local industry.

The park is to be accessible to all. It should be a
