Nordland Hospital – A Sustainable Transformation
Nordland Hospital in Bodø was completed in 2020 after nearly two decades of renewal and expansion. The project transformed an outdated and fragmented facility into a modern, patient-focused hospital with clear structure, easy orientation, and welcoming spaces.
The new hospital covers 75,000 m² and offers 300 beds. At its heart is a bright central square, connecting old and new buildings through a glass-covered street. Here visitors find the information desk, café, pharmacy, and shops, while green parks and a hospital garden provide calm outdoor spaces.
Patient areas are organized along two main axes, ensuring short distances, universal accessibility, and better contact between staff and patients. The design emphasizes openness, natural light, and strong connections to the city and landscape.
Granite façades and carefully chosen materials tie the hospital to its history, while the art project “The Art of Transformation”
adds color, light, and joy—reflecting both the physical renewal of the hospital and the healing journey of its patients.
