Completed in 2022, the new District Medical Center in Brønnøysund strengthens specialist healthcare services for the Sør-Helgeland region. Located west of the existing Health and Care Center, the new building shares a common entrance and creates a larger forecourt that welcomes visitors upon arrival. Its colorful façade pattern enhances visibility and highlights the importance of the new functions at the site.
The public areas are shared between the new and existing buildings, including a new main entrance, lobby, and an expanded café that serves as a social meeting point. A new vertical circulation system connects to common waiting areas on the upper floors.
Inside, the center houses outpatient clinics, a new emergency ward, ambulance garage, and support functions for prehospital services. The outpatient department features spacious treatment rooms with ample daylight, as well as a CT/X-ray unit and facilities for chemotherapy, including preparation of cytostatics.
The project was carried out by Brønnøy Municipality as owner, in close collaboration with Helgeland Hospital, the main tenant. The DMS has improved local healthcare services, reduced travel distances for patients, and created a vibrant new hub for the community.
